Registration is now open for the 26th annual Best Dam Run 10K road race and walk along the Clackamas River in Estacada on Saturday, Sept. 26, 2009.
Online registration is $15 until Sept. 1 at www.orrc.net ($20 for advanced and $25 on race day). Participants may also register at Pace Setter Athletic at 4506 S.E. Woodstock in Portland through Sept. 22. Free socks if you register at the store. Long sleeve microfiber T-shirts are $20 while supplies last.
Participants will meet at Estacada City Hall at 9:30 a.m. on Sept. 26 for a bus ride to the starting line. The 6.2-mile race ends at Broadway Street in downtown Estacada.
Engraved bricks for sale to support Veterans Memorial
Engraved bricks are available for purchase to support the Estacada Veterans Memorial and help build a wall honoring local veterans. Order forms are available at Estacada True Value, Estacada City Hall, and Viewpoint Restaurant and Grocery. The bricks are $50 each, and Mayor Becky Arnold was first to support the memorial. “I think the Estacada Veterans Memorial is a great asset to the city," Arnold said. “I’m proud to have my daughter’s name up there, along with other Estacada-area veterans.”

Pet food donations wanted at food bank
The Estacada Area Food Bank is in need of donated pet food for dogs and cats. Dry or canned pet food can be donated at Estacada Junior High School, 500 N.E. Main St.; the Book Nook, 303 N.E. Two-dollar Tuesday lunch at ECC
The Estacada Community Center hosts Two-dollar Tuesdays, serving a soup and sandwich lunch at noon each Tuesday for $2. The ECC also serves breakfast each Wednesday beginning at 9 a.m. for $3, and dinner on Friday beginning at 5 p.m. for $7. Meals served by the ECC are open to all ages in the community. Registration open for youth soccer
Estacada Youth Soccer registration is currently open for the fall season. Costs: $60 for grades K-3; $70 for grades 4-8. Registration forms are available at local schools, The Artsmith, 325 S. Vendors wanted for First Friday events
On Oct. 2, the City of Estacada will close Broadway in the downtown area for First Friday, sponsored by The Spiral Gallery, Pasha Boutique and area businesses. Youth football sign-ups continue
Youth Football is accepting registrations for the fall season. Costs: $80 due at sign-ups, plus $85 due first day of practice. Group adds donation drop box in Estacada
Volunteers of America Oregon has added a donation drop box to the Estacada community. The new donation drop box is located in the parking lot at Whispering Pines Senior Village, 525 N.W. 6th Ave. Acceptable donations include gently used clothing, shoes, and household items. Furniture is not currently being accepted.
Blue Heaven Riding Academy seeks volunteers
The Blue Heaven Therapeutic Riding Academy is seeking quality volunteers to work with horses and disabled riders.
