ADVERTISEMENTS
On Saturday, Feb. 6, the Estacada Rural Fire District will burn a structure located at 274 4th St., on the corner of 4th and Currin St. The structure is a four-plex apartment that is currently unoccupied and was recently purchased by the fire department.
Teams of firefighters from Estacada Fire, Sandy Fire, Hoodland Fire, Boring Fire, and Colton Fire will engage in a number of training exercises using live fire at the structure.
Upon completion of the exercises, the building will be allowed to burn completely to the ground in a controlled fashion. The fire exercises will start at 7 a.m. and should be finished by 3 p.m.
Because of the danger associated with fires of this size, the fire department will close 4th St. between Main and Shafford, and Currin Street between 5th Street and 4th Street. Access to Hair Concepts & Tanning will be closed and the 4th St. access to the 76 Station on 4th and Main will be blocked.
Homes that are located above the property, on 4th Street Hill and Regan Hill, will likely see smoke from the fire, and should not call 911 to report a fire. Traffic will be impacted as well and traffic detour signs will be in place. Homeowners will be contacted individually by ERFD regarding the impact the fire may have.
“These live-fire trainings are essential to our training, and allow our firefighters to practice the tools and techniques we use on a daily basis to save lives and protect property,” said Chief Alan Hull.
The plan for burning and training within the structure is contingent on weather conditions and air quality concerns for the day, and may not take place as scheduled if conditions do not comply with EPA and State of Oregon standards.
