Census Bureau looking for workers

The U.S. Census Bureau will test for census jobs for this area at 6 p.m. on Dec. 17 in the Flora Room of the Estacada Public Library, 825 N.W. Send a package to someone serving overseas

Go to the Website anysoldier.com to pick the name of a soldier to mail needed items and treats to for the holidays. Flat-rate boxes, with a weight limit of 70 pounds, are available for free at the Estacada Post Office and can be mailed to a soldier in Iraq or Afghanistan for $11.95.

Senior Dinner at community center Dec. 19

The Estacada Mennonite Church will host a Christmas dinner for senior citizens at the Estacada Community Center at noon on Dec. 19. The meal can also be delivered for senior citizens by members of the Mennonite Church by calling the center at 503-630-7454. Those who wish to attend but need a ride can call the center to arrange transportation.

Party wear needed for SAFACT fundraiser

SAFACT needs gently-used dresses, ties, purses, shoes and jewelry for their fund-raising semi-formal-formal boutique to be held just after Christmas, which will benefit the drug-and-alcohol-free senior all-night party for the graduating class at Estacada High School. Donations are tax-deductible; items will be sold to local teens for reasonable prices. Drop donations off at the EHS main office or call Liz Davidson at 503-630-2980.

Double your gift to Oregon’s Culture

This year, there’s a painless way to donate to the Oregon Cultural Trust, which supports Oregon’s unique culture, including the state’s 40,000 archeological sites. If you contribute before Dec. 31 to a participating non-profit group (in Estacada: Estacada Together, The Artback, Estacada Area Historical Museum, Estacada Community Foundation, Estacada Library Foundation and Jacknife Zion Horseheaven Historical Society), you may donate a matching amount to the Cultural Trust and receive that amount back as an Oregon income tax credit. Women’s services available every Thursday

Clackamas Women’s Services has been providing support services and resources for survivors of domestic and sexual violence in Clackamas County for 24 years. They are offering outreach hours in Estacada on Thursdays. On the 1st and 3rd Thursdays of the month, outreach is

available at the Library from 10:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. On the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of the month, outreach is available at the Community Center from 10:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Drop-ins welcome. At this time we are not offering group on Thursday nights. Survivors in the Estacada area may be eligible for additional resources such as gas vouchers, and gift cards. Please contact April M. Fund established for fire victims at U.S. Bank

The Ortega family lost most of their belongings in a fire on Nov. 14. Community members can contribute to the Ortega Family Fund at any U.S. Bank to help the family. Donations of food and clothing can be made at Clackamas River Elementary School, 301 N.E. 2nd St. The family includes parents, and three boys ages, 15, 13 and 10.

Adopt a family for the holidays

Your or your company can adopt a local family in desperate need of primarily basic household items and winter clothing. Families are primarily obtained through school recommendations and the Estacada Food Bank. Adopt-a-Family is a confidential program. Those who want to adopt would receive the first name, ages and requested needs, then buy some, or all, of the requested needs, wrap them, and deliver them upstairs to Estacada Community Center, Dec. 17, noon to 7 p.m. For further information, or to sign up to be a sponsor, call Janet Kiger-Hellard at 503-630-7433.

Food Bank can help families this season

The Estacada Area Food Bank has several opportunities to help local families that are having a tough time right now. Adopt-a-family is available to all Food Bank clients. Presents donated by local families will be provided. Fill out form and deliver to the Food Bank by December 1. Toys for Tots: Each child in family will be presented with wrapped present suitable for age. Fill out and deliver form to Food Bank by December 15. Christmas Dinner Food Boxes: All food needed for large family Christmas dinner will be provided to anyone in need. No application is necessary. Food boxes available December 19 between noon and 2pm. Alcoholics Anonymous meetings weekly

Alcoholics Anonymous meetings are held every Monday at 7 p.m. and every Friday at 8 p.m. at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, 297 N.W. Broadway.

Spiral Gallery to sponsor student show

The Spiral Gallery is pleased to once again announce our Student Art Show. This annual event will take place in January 2010 and is an opportunity to showcase local artists of all ages (young or older) who are currently enrolled in school, an arts class or apprenticeship program. If you have artwork you would like to submit, applications are at the gallery and on our website: www.thespiralgallery.com. Items can be dropped off and forms filled out during regular business hours: Tues — Sat, 11 — 6 pm and Sunday, 12 — 4 pm. Items must be delivered no later than Dec. 29. An opening reception will be held as usual for the First Friday of the month — January 2, 2010. Refreshments will be served and students and their families are encouraged to attend this fun community event. Timberlake Job Corps looking for community projects

The staff and students at Timberlake Job Corps Center are involved in the “Make a Difference” program. Some centers participate in the program once a year. Timberlake wants to be involved year-round. The Make a Difference program gives the students an opportunity to help local communities in a variety of ways–community projects or individual projects. If you or your company have a project (maybe landscaping or special project help), or if you know of an individual who needs help, please contact Warren at Timberlake. Host families for foreign exchange students needed

EF Foundation for Foreign Study looking for host families for the remainder of the academic year, January through June, 2010. Learn a new language, try a new food, and experience a new culture, all through hosting a foreign exchange student. EF Foundation is a non-profit

organization that welcomes high school students from all around the world to the US. You may handpick your student, based on gender, country, hobbies, and interests. Two-dollar Tuesday lunch at ECC

The Estacada Community Center hosts Two-dollar Tuesdays, serving a soup and sandwich lunch at noon each Tuesday for $2. The ECC also serves breakfast each Wednesday beginning at 9 a.m. for $3, and dinner on Friday beginning at 5 p.m. for $7. Meals served by the ECC are open to all ages in the community. Overeaters Anonymous group every Saturday

Infant, toddler playgroup meets twice a week

The playgroup at the Estacada Public Library meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10:30 p.m. Parents with infants and toddlers ages newborn to five years are invited to attend; in the Flora Room at the library, 825 N.W. Volunteers wanted for disability services advisory council

The Clackamas County Disability Services Advisory Council is seeking up to nine volunteers to serve for two-year terms to review and make recommendations regarding Medicaid policy and procedures as it relates to people with disabilities. The council works to protect, restore and improve a comprehensive service delivery system for Clackamas County residents with disabilities. It meets at 1:30 p.m. on the third Tuesday of the month at the Department of Human Services office, 211 Molalla Ave., Oregon City.
