Alta Dollie Winters Anderson, of Estacada, died early Friday morning, Nov. 13, 2009, at Marquis Respite Care in Oregon City, Ore., of cancer. She was 87.
A celebration of her life will be held at 11 a.m., today, Nov. 18, at Estacada Funeral Chapel. Private inurnment will be at Mt. Zion Cemetery.
Alta was born to James Ross Winters and Annie (Anna) May Beeman on Dec. 28, 1921, the 13th of 15 children, in Paradise, Ore., where Alta began her mortal journey.
Alta grew up in Wallowa, Ore., and went to the 8th grade in that area. When she was 11 years old, her mother died. At 13 her father died. Alta’s older sister, Violet, gave her a home until she was 17, at which time she married Richard Anderson. They moved to Pocatello, Idaho.
Alta was always a valued homemaker. Her specialty was cooking, especially pies. She and Richard, a logger, moved often. From Pocatello they moved to Washington, Lake View, Ore., and various places in Grant County, Oregon. Their final move was to Estacada. At that time she worked for Red Fox Motel as a maid and retired after 27 years.
In 1987, Richard died. For five years, Alta continued her work, then quit and volunteered her time at Estacada Food Bank. She was a member of the Eagle Creek Grange, The Garfield Skip-A-Week Quilt Club, American Legion Auxiliary and a 40-year member of the Rebekah Lodge. She was an active member of Eagle Creek Four Square Church. Alta also loved to play Bunko, pinochle, and chicken foot.
Quilting, embroidery, and cooking were relished by Alta, especially pie-baking.
Surviving family members include, sons Norman Anderson of Great Falls, Mont., Dwain Anderson of John Day, Ore. and Steve Anderson of Estacada; daughter Judy Randall of Idaho Falls, Idaho; stepson Dick Anderson of Richfield, Wash.; seven grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren
Alta will be missed by her many loving friends and family.
