Springwater Grange hosts pancake breakfast Saturday

The Springwater Grange will host a pancake breakfast on Nov. 7 from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. The breakfast includes the regular fare of pancakes, sausage, hash browns, and eggs. Cost is $5 for all you can eat. 24591 S.E. Wallens Road.


Harding Grange offering turkey dinner Sunday

It is time for the annual Turkey Dinner at Harding Grange. Nov. 8, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dinner features roasted turkey with all the trimming at reasonable prices. Harding Grange is located at 21552 S. ‘How to cook a turkey’ kids contest

Estacada News is sponsoring a contest open to students in kindergarten through sixth grade. Send us your instructions, recipes and tips for cooking a turkey and preparing a Thanksgiving feast for family and friends by Nov. 17. Red Barn Preschool hosts spaghetti dinner/auction fundraiser

Red Barn Preschool Spaghetti Dinner and Auction, Saturday, Nov. 14, 5 p.m. at Clackamas River Elementary. Tickets include spaghetti (meat w/ meatballs, or vegetarian sauce available), salad, drink and dessert. Presale tickets: you can buy tickets from Red Barn members: $12 family, $4 adult, $2 kids. PAGE hosts next theater night Nov. 16

Join the Performing Arts Group of Estacada in the Flora Room of the Estacada Public Library, 825 N.W. Wade St., select Monday evenings at 7 p.m. for free theater workshop — improv games, skits, and one-acts — as they gear up for their spring production. PAGE member Andrew Gilford will lead the games. Bring in work that you have written--a skit, or a one-act play--with copies for the actors. Give your work a chance to be seen live in the Flora Room, and to be considered for inclusion in the spring production. Ages 8 to adult. Next dates: Nov. 16 and 30.


Infant, toddler playgroup now twice a week

The playgroup at the Estacada Public Library will now meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10:30 p.m., beginning Tuesday, Nov. 3. Parents with infants and toddlers ages newborn to five years are invited to attend, in the Flora Room at the library, 825 N.W. Wade Street. Bring toy and sippy cup. Host families for foreign exchange students needed

EF Foundation for Foreign Study looking for host families for the remainder of the academic year, January through June, 2010. Learn a new language, try a new food, and experience a new culture, all through hosting a foreign exchange student. EF Foundation is a non-profit

organization that welcomes high school students from all around the world to the US. You may handpick your student, based on gender, country, hobbies, and interests. Festival of Choirs needs community choir singers

All community members who enjoy singing selections from Handel's 'The Messiah" are urged to participate in the16th Annual Estacada Christmas Festival of Choirs, directed by Edith Cameron. Voices for all sections — soprano, alto, tenor and bass — are needed. Rehearsals for community choir begin November 7 at 7 p.m., Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 30498 S.E. Eagle Creek Road. Festival of Choirs will be Dec. 12 at 7 p.m., at the Estacada Auditorium, 500 N. Main St. Choirs from the Estacada area are encouraged to participate, and audience members are encouraged to sing "The Hallelujah Chorus" with the choir on the night of the festival. Volunteers wanted for disability services advisory council

The Clackamas County Disability Services Advisory Council is seeking up to nine volunteers to serve for two-year terms to review and make recommendations regarding Medicaid policy and procedures as it relates to people with disabilities. The council works to protect, restore and improve a comprehensive service delivery system for Clackamas County residents with disabilities. It meets at 1:30 p.m. on the third Tuesday of the month at the Department of Human Services office, 211 Molalla Ave., Oregon City. Estacada High School placing ads in gym for fundraising

The Estacada High School Athletic Department is selling advertisements to place in the gym for one year. A 2-foot by 8-foot advertisement is only $1000. Funds go toward maintaining facilities, new equipment, etc. Current priority is a new scoreboard. It is a great way to advertise your business while showing support for our local athletes. River Mill Elementary launches flamingo fundraiser

The River Mill PTA needs your support. The PTA is currently sponsoring a Flamingo Invasion fundraiser. If flamingos appear on your lawn, you may either pay $3 removal fee, join River Mill PTA for $10, pay removal and purchase flamingo insurance, which is $2/month or $12/school year so you are not invaded again. Targets chosen by referral from friends and family only. A letter with further details may be picked up at the River Mill Elementary School office, 850 N. Broadway.


Book Nook annual sale on now

The Estacada Library Foundation Book Nook, 3rd and Main St., is having their annual sale. No book in the store is over $1.00. Children’s books are $.25; every child that comes in the store gets one free book. This is a great opportunity to do gift shopping and support the Estacada Public Library.


Video project looking for veterans

Becky Ginsbach is searching for veterans willing to share their war stories on video. These stories will be included in an upcoming DVD production "Heroes’ Reflections," produced and directed by Ginsbach. The video is part of a series that will include veterans’ stories of past and present, intended to preserve history and keep the stories available for future generations. The first two DVDs will focus on WWII Veterans, beginning with D-day and Pearl Harbor heroes. Ginsbach hopes to have the complete series available in one to two years. Veterans not required to be from Estacada area to be included in the series. She may be contacted at estacadaheroes@yahoo.com.


Foster parents needed

The Clackamas County DHS Child Welfare office and Boys and Girls Aid are working together to recruit new foster parents in the county. There is a need for new foster parents, particularly for teens and sibling groups. Women’s support group Thursdays at ECC

Clackamas Women’s Services has been providing support services and resources for survivors of domestic and sexual violence in Clackamas County for 24 years. CWS is now offering an education, support and personal growth group for women affected by domestic or sexual violence. The group is held each Thursday from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Estacada Community Center at no cost to participants. Drop-ins are welcome. ‘Catholics Returning Home’

On Oct. 7, St. Aloysius Catholic Church, 297 N.W. Broadway, began a six-week series, called “Catholics Returning Home,” held at 7 p.m. each Wednesday at St. Aloysius Parish Education Center. These sessions are for non-practicing Catholics who are seeking answers to questions about returning to the church. Estacada Heroes seeking names of local military personnel, veterans

Estacada Heroes is in need of assistance from the community in collecting the names of any Estacada Area Veterans, past, present, or currently serving in a branch of the U.S. military.

If you are from the Estacada Area and are a current member of the US military or an honorably discharged Veteran, please submit your name, rank, branch of service, dates of service, conflicts served in if any, and contact information.

Estacada Library Foundation’s Book Nook, corner of 3rd and Main, seeking volunteers to work at store on Thursdays. Retail experience not necessary, but helpful; four-hour time block preferred.
