Wade Creek Park cleanup

Estacada Parks and Recreation Department is sponsoring a cleanup day at Wade Creek Park, 747 N.W. Wade St., to make the park look as nice as possible before the rains set in. Parks and Rec commissioners and city officials will gather from 9 a.m. until noon on Saturday, Oct. 10. Bring friends and family, garden gloves, and favorite hand tools to help weed the flower beds, spread fresh bark dust, pick up litter, prepare Wade Creek Park for the coming winter season and speak to Parks and Rec commissioners about your own personal vision for Phase II of Wade Creek Park's development. Light refreshments provided.

Worm Composting Workshop

Doug Knippel from Northwest Redworms will conduct a Composting with Worms workshop at the Estacada Farmers Market, 3rd and Broadway, at noon this Saturday, Oct. 10. Supplies are available by advance order through www.northwestredworms.com and at the workshop. 20 percent of all sales proceeds attributed to the workshop will be donated to SEED for school gardens. 2nd Annual Harvest Dinner and Silent Auction

2nd annual Harvest Dinner and Silent Auction this Saturday, Oct. 10, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at River Mill Elementary, 860 N. Broadway. This is a fundraiser for SEED. Great food, live music, children’s activities and beauties to bid on. Tickets are $15 adults; $5 students; age 6 and under free; available Monday through Friday, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Estacada Chamber of Commerce in City Hall and during office hours at Eagle Creek Elementary and River Mill Elementary. Video project looking for veterans

Becky Ginsbach is searching for veterans willing to share their war stories on video. These stories will be included in an upcoming DVD production "Heroes’ Reflections," produced and directed by Ginsbach. The video is part of a series that will include veterans’ stories of past and present, intended to preserve history and keep the stories available for future generations. The first two DVDs will focus on WWII Veterans, beginning with D-day and Pearl Harbor heroes. Ginsbach hopes to have the complete series available in one to two years. Veterans not required to be be from Estacada area to be included in the series. She may be contacted at estacadaheroes@yahoo.com.

Foster parents needed

The Clackamas County DHS Child Welfare office and Boys and Girls Aid are working together to recruit new foster parents in the county. There is a need for new foster parents, particularly for teens and sibling groups. Inner Ecology workshop

Author, mystic, and a co-founder of Findhorn Gardens in Scotland, David Spangler will be offering a workshop in Eagle Creek on Saturday, Oct. 24, from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Cost is $95.00. Women’s support group Thursdays at ECC

Clackamas Women’s Services has been providing support services and resources for survivors of domestic and sexual violence in Clackamas County for 24 years. CWS is now offering an education, support and personal growth group for women affected by domestic or sexual violence. The group is held each Thursday from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Estacada Community Center at no cost to participants. Drop-ins are welcome. Infant, toddler playgroup at library Thursday

Parents with infants and toddlers ages newborn to five years are invited to attend a playgroup at the Estacada Public Library, 825 N.W. Wade Street, on Sept. 24 beginning at 10:30 a.m. The playgroup meets each Thursday in the Flora Room at the library. PAGE hosts Monday theater nights this fall

Join the Performing Arts Group of Estacada in the Floral Room of the Estacada Public Library, 825 N.W. Wade St., on select Monday evenings at 7 p.m. for improv games, skits, and one-acts, as they gear up for their spring production. PAGE member Andrew Gilford will lead the games. Bring in work that you have written--a skit, or a one-act play--with copies for the actors. Give your work a chance to be seen live in the Floral Room, and to be considered for inclusion in the spring production. Ages 8 to adult. Next dates are: Oct. 19, Nov. 2, 16 and 30.

‘Catholics Returning Home’

On Oct. 7, St. Aloysius Catholic Church, 297 N.W. Broadway, began a six-week series, called “Catholics Returning Home,” held at 7 p.m. each Wednesday at St. Aloysius Parish Education Center. These sessions are for non-practicing Catholics who are seeking answers to questions about returning to the church. Estacada Heroes seeking names of local military personnel, veterans

Estacada Heroes is in need of assistance from the community in collecting the names of any Estacada Area Veterans, past, present, or currently serving in a branch of the U.S. military.

If you are from the Estacada Area and are a current member of the US military or an honorably discharged Veteran, please submit your name, rank, branch of service, dates of service, conflicts served in if any, and contact information.

Farmers Market open through October

The Estacada Farmers Market is open on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., at 280 S. Broadway, through October. The market features fresh fruits and vegetables from local growers. Vendors will also be selling fresh strawberries and bouquets, honey, farm-fresh eggs, nursery stock, locally grown flowers and other items. Alcoholics Anonymous meetings are held every Monday at 7 p.m. and every Friday at 8 p.m. at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, 297 N.W. Broadway.

Book Nook needs volunteers

Estacada Library Foundation’s Book Nook, corner of 3rd and Main, seeking volunteers to work at store on Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays. Retail experience not necessary, but helpful; four-hour time block preferred. Applications available at Book Nook (yellow sandwich sign is out front if they are open). Church seeks donations for food basket program

St. Aloysius and St. Vincent DePaul in Estacada are seeking food donations for the Community Basket Program. Donations are needed to support the program with distribution on the first and third Tuesday of every month from noon to 2 p.m. at St. Aloysius. Food and cash donations can be made at St. Aloysius Catholic Church at 295 S. Broadway. Canned and packaged goods may be left in the big blue barrel under carport at the church.

Club offers gun sighting

The Estacada Rod and Gun Club, 23400 S.E. Creek Road, is hosting public sight days to help local residents sight hunting rifles and legal hunting handguns. The service is available on Oct. 10-11, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Cost is $5 per gun; includes target. Ear protection required.

School supply donations wanted

The Estacada Area Food Bank, 200 S.W. Club House Drive, is accepting school supply donations to help students prepare for the 2009-10 school year. In addition, retailers Office Depot and Target give a cash bonus to Estacada schools when customers shop at the stores. Customers must mention one of Estacada’s schools at the time of purchase for the school to receive credit. Foundation launches EHS alumni association

The Estacada Community Foundation has initiated plans to establish an Estacada High School alumni association to mark the 100th anniversary of the first graduating class in 1910. The purpose of the alumni association is to encourage ongoing alumni interest and support for the pursuit of educational excellence at EHS. Proposed plans include developing a searchable database of alumni, archives, history (centennial book), and website. CWS will offer volunteer training in October

Clackamas Women’s Services is offering free volunteer training in October. CWS provides domestic and sexual violence support to Clackamas County residents. Fall volunteer training comprises 36 hours of weekday evenings and Saturday daylong sessions during October. Individuals who complete training will answer crisis line, volunteer as legal advocates or work with families and children.
