City seeking public comment on hazard-mitigation plan

The city of Estacada, in partnership with Clackamas County, has drafted a natural hazards mitigation plan and is seeking public comment on the planning document. Citizens are encouraged to view the plan and submit comments at www.cityofestacada.org before Sept. 24.


City manager hosts meeting about local economy Sept. 15

Estacada City Manager Bill Elliott will host an evening meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 15, beginning at 6:30 p.m. in the Mason Building, 366 S. Broadway, to discuss potential business opportunities in Estacada, recruiting and keeping businesses, urban renewal, the Highway 224 improvement project and other topics. Refreshments will be served. Sandy Fire hosts blood drive Sept. 16

The Sandy Fire Department and the American Red Cross will host a blood drive on Sept. 16, from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m., 17460 Bruns Ave., in Sandy.

Any healthy person age 17 (or age 16 with signed American Red Cross parental consent form) or older and weighing at least 110 pounds may be eligible to donate blood. Valid identification is required for all blood donations. All eligible donors are asked to schedule an appointment to donate blood by going to www.givelife.org, sponsor code: SandyComm or call the American Red Cross at 503-528-5603. Eagle Creek Grange hosts blood drive Sept. 24

The Eagle Creek Grange, 24491 S.E. Eagle Creek Road, will host a blood drive on Sept. 24, from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. Call the American Red Cross at 503-528-5603 to make an appointment.


ECC hosts bingo, zoo trip for seniors

The Estacada Community Center will host a bingo lunch on Sept. 11 beginning at noon, and celebrate September birthdays. On Sept. 15, the ECC will host a Senior Safari for $15 per person that includes transportation, sack lunch and admission to the Oregon Zoo. Clackamas Valley Baptist Church kicks off TeamKid program

The Clackamas Valley Baptist Church, 29275 S.E. Eagle Creek Road, will host the kick-off to its TeamKid program on Sept. 16, beginning at 6:45 p.m. The free program for youth in kindergarten through sixth grade includes games and activities based on the theme, "Step Out - The Courage to Do What is Right."

A separate program will also be available for older youth. The event begins a series of weekly meetings for the TeamKid program, held each Wednesday from 6:45 p.m. to 8 p.m. Bus service will be available as needed. PAGE hosts Monday theater nights this fall

Join the Performing Arts Group of Estacada in the Floral Room of the Estacada Public Library on select Monday evenings at 7 p.m. for improv games, skits, and one-acts, as they gear up for their spring production. PAGE member Andrew Gilford will lead the games. Bring in work that you have written--a skit, or a one-act play--with copies for the actors. Give your work a chance to be seen live in the Floral Room, and to be considered for inclusion in the spring production. Ages 8 to adult. Sept. 21, Oct. 5 and 19, Nov. 2, 16 and 30.


Estacada Heroes seeking names of local military personnel, veterans

Estacada Heroes is in need of assistance from the community in collecting the names of any Estacada Area Veterans, past, present, or currently serving in a branch of the U.S. military.

If you are from the Estacada Area and are a current member of the US military or an honorably discharged Veteran, please submit your name, rank, branch of service, dates of service, conflicts served in if any, and contact information.

New Hours for Farmers Market

The Estacada Farmers Market is now open on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., at 280 S. Broadway, through October. At this time of year, the market features fresh fruits and vegetables from local growers. Vendors will also be selling fresh strawberries and bouquets, honey, farm-fresh eggs, nursery stock, locally grown flowers and other items. Alcoholics Anonymous meetings are held every Monday at 7 p.m. and every Friday at 8 p.m. at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, 297 N.W. Broadway.


‘Catholics Returning Home’ begins Oct. 7

On Oct. 7, St. Aloysius Catholic Church, 297 N.W. Broadway, will begin a six-week series, called “Catholics Returning Home,” held at 7 p.m. each Wednesday at St. Aloysius Parish Education Center. These sessions are for non-practicing Catholics who are seeking answers to questions about returning to the church. Curves accepting school supplies

Curves’ fifth annual school supply drive began Sept. 1. Join Curves for $49 when you either buy or donate $10 worth of school supplies, through the month of September. All donations given to local schools. Curves members who bring supplies in will be entered into a drawing for a free month. Mini Glow Bang Open Sept. 12

Estacada Area Events will host the Mini Glow Bang Open Golf Tournament and Putting Challenge on Sept. 12 at Springwater Golf Course, 25230 S. Wallens Road, Estacada. Par 3 hole prizes up to $10,000. Registration begins at 6:30 p.m., rain or shine. Four-person scramble; individuals and groups fewer than four paired up at registration. Shotgun start at 8 p.m. All proceeds support Estacada’s Fourth of July Big Bank Fireworks show. EHS Class of ’74 Reunion Sept. 12

Estacada High School Class of 1974 will hold their 35th reunion on Sept. 12 in the Mountain View Banquet Room at the Mountain View Golf Club in Boring, 27195 SE Kelso Rd. Barton reunion potluck Sept. 12

Down the River Cleanup Sept. 13

The Clackamas River Basin Council will host the 7th annual Down the River Cleanup on Sept. 13, beginning at 9:30 a.m. at Barton Park. From there, volunteers will disperse to clean up a 14-mile stretch along the Clackamas River.

Clackamas Women’s Services open Tuesday at library

Clackamas Women’s services will host drop-in hours from 10 a.m. to noon at Estacada Public Library, 825 N.W. Wade St., on Tuesday, Sept. 15. The Oregon City-based non-profit provides counseling, intervention, housing and other assistance to women in need in Clackamas County. For more information, call 503-722-2366.


Church seeks food donations to supplement state program

St. Aloysius and St. Vincent DePaul in Estacada are seeking food donations to supplement a state program sponsored by the Oregon Food Bank. Cutbacks have forced the Oregon Food Bank to eliminate one of two monthly food deliveries in Estacada, but the church wants to continue to provide two distribution days to those in need.

Donations are needed to continue the program with distribution on the first and third Tuesday of every month from noon to 2 p.m. Food and cash donations can be made at St. Aloysius Catholic Church at 295 S. Broadway.


Club offers gun sighting

The Estacada Rod and Gun Club, 23400 S.E. Creek Road, is hosting public sight days to help local residents sight hunting rifles and legal hunting handguns. The service is available daily through Oct. 4, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekends; and Oct. 10-11, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Cost is $5 per gun; includes target. Ear protection required.


Infant, toddler playgroup at library Sept. 10

Parents with infants and toddlers ages newborn to five years are invited to attend a playgroup at the Estacada Public Library, 825 N.W. Wade Street, on Sept. 10 beginning at 10:30 a.m. The playgroup meets each Thursday in the Flora Room at the library. School supply donations wanted

The Estacada Area Food Bank, 200 S.W. Club House Drive, is accepting school supply donations to help students prepare for the 2009-10 school year. In addition, retailers Office Depot and Target give a cash bonus to Estacada schools when customers shop at the stores. Customers must mention one of Estacada’s schools at the time of purchase for the school to receive credit. Foundation launches EHS alumni association

The Estacada Community Foundation has initiated plans to establish an Estacada High School alumni association to mark the 100th anniversary of the first graduating class in 1910. The purpose of the alumni association is to encourage ongoing alumni interest and support for the pursuit of educational excellence at EHS. Proposed plans include developing a searchable database of alumni, archives, history (centennial book), and website. CWS will offer volunteer training in October

Clackamas Women’s Services is offering free volunteer training in October. CWS provides domestic and sexual violence support to Clackamas County residents. Fall volunteer training comprises 36 hours of weekday evenings and Saturday sessions during October. Individuals who complete training will answer crisis line, volunteer as legal advocates or work with families and children.
