When The Spiral Gallery opens for its monthly First Friday show on April 3, the artists’ corner at the back of the building will be decorated with the work of many of the gallery’s 30-plus artists for the group show called “Mother Nature.”
The Spiral Gallery’s First Friday show, at 341 S. Broadway, will open at 5 p.m. on April 3 with a collection of work that includes ceramics, metal art, drawing, sculpture, jewelry, painting and works in other mediums, all designed around the theme “Mother Nature.”
Pottery artist Am Griswold is among the artists who will showcase their work in the group show, and her pieces will include two clay-made female figures she created at her studio, tucked away on the McMenamins Edgefield campus in Troutdale, where visitors meander by on the cobblestone walkway, wander through the manicured gardens and sample the food and wine inside the main building.
“One of the pieces I call ‘Madre Linda del Mundo,’” which means “beautiful mother of earth,” Griswold said. “It’s a large piece that’s about two feet tall. It’s designed as a plant ring, so there’s no bottom in it, so you can put it in your garden to surround something like a rose bush or plant.”
