When the $787 billion federal stimulus package was approved earlier this year, state agencies, counties and local jurisdictions throughout Oregon began filling out their wish list of programs and projects that the funding could be used for to jumpstart the economy.
The city of Estacada joined the bidding war for a piece of the funding, and recently received verbal confirmation of an estimated $550,000 in federal stimulus money, City Manager Randy Ealy said.
“We’re looking at about a half a million dollars in stimulus money for the city,” Ealy said. “The money will be used to pay our part of the match for the Highway 224 project, and repaving several streets on Lake Shore Drive.”
The city was told that an initial grant award of $150,000 from the Community Development Block Grant Program will be increased to $400,000. The additional funding will pay for complete street reconstructions on Hawthorn Road and Ivy Road along Lake Shore Drive. The city will be required to contribute a 20 percent match to the project, and may have enough money to update Juniper Road as well, City Council member Sean Drinkwine said.
In a related application, the Oregon Department of Transportation verbally awarded the city of Estacada an estimated $150,000 to cover most of its local share of the $1.6 million Highway 224 Enhancement project set to break ground July 1.
