A million-dollar construction project is underway at the corner block of Zorbist and Third Street in Estacada. Owned by Reliance Connects, the site will soon offer four new downtown retail spaces and will become the home of the company’s technical support team.
“We’re getting a lot more customers and a lot higher demand for Internet services,” said manager Matt Day. Approximately twenty of the telecommunication company’s broadband Internet support employees will occupy the top floor of the 10,000 square foot, two-story structure.
The project is scheduled for completion in the first part of October of this year, Day said. The building will have a “shell design,” which allows the lower level to be divided into either two or four spaces of 1,125 or 2,500 square feet each. There are no potential tenants lined up yet, he said.
CIDA Inc., a design and consulting firm in Portland, developed the architectural plans for the project. The CIDA portfolio includes the A-Boy retail building in Tigard, the REI store in Bend and the Hawthorn Farm Station Athletic Club in Hillsboro. Sage Contractors is the project’s general contractor, and the project manager is Brent McGraw.
The new construction falls within Estacada’s new Enterprise Zone boundaries. Enterprise Zone properties receive temporary tax relief for improvements if a requisite number of First Source employees are hired through Oregon’s Employment Department. However, Day said that the zone program was not a consideration for this development, and that there is no plan for hiring new employees for the new location at this time.
Reliance Connects is one of many businesses owned and operated by the Day family, which has resided in Estacada for five generations, said Day. “My grandpa has been here since he was born and I’m the fifth generation here.”
The Day family’s other downtown business properties include the retail building that houses Subway, Curves and Estacada News on Highway 224, the retail building with the new Nirvana Nails and Spa salon on Broadway Street and the Reliance Connects building.
In addition to these properties and Reliance Connects, the family owns and operates Day Wireless, Cascade Christmas Tree Farm and Central Station Monitoring, an alarm response company.

Re: Reliance adds new building to downtown
This is *exactly* what downtown Estacada needs... Four more vacant storefronts.
What this town really needs to stimulate the economy is a Blimpies sub shop .
