Oregon's Senate President Pro Tempore, Senator Rick Metsger (D-Welches), endorsed Representative Brent Barton for Oregon's District 26 senate seat. Barton, center, is seen here at the town-hall-style meeting he hosted in Estacada last month.
Senator Rick Metsger (D – Welches) recently endorsed Representative Brent Barton to serve as the next Senator for Oregon District 26.
“Representative Barton has demonstrated a work ethic and passion for public service that will effectively serve the constituents of District 26 in the years to come,” Senator Metsger said. “I endorse Brent Barton to be our next State Senator.”
Senator Metsger has represented Clackamas and Hood River since 1998. Recognized as a leader by his peers, Metsger was elected to be Senate President Pro Tempore in 2009. Senator Metsger has forged bi-partisan consensus on numerous pieces of important legislation. He currently serves on the Education and General Government Committee, the Rules Committee, and as the chair of the Business and Transportation Committee.
“I am deeply honored by Sen. Metsger’s endorsement,” Representative Barton said. “The legislature will miss Senator Metsger’s leadership. I will work hard every day to represent the constituents of Senate District 26 as Sen. Metsger has in his decade of service.”
Representative Barton was a leader during the 2009 Legislative session for issues relevant to Clackamas, East Multnomah, and Hood River counties. Barton co-wrote legislation to curb metal theft that passed the legislature unanimously. With the help of Senator Metsger, Barton sponsored and passed legislation improving access to government contracts for disabled combat veterans. Again working with Senator Metsger, Barton helped deliver critical transportation funding to the region, including for the Oregon Department of Transportation Highway 224 Beautification Project currently underway in Estacada.
“Senator Metsger was an invaluable mentor for me,” Barton said. “He has helped me become a better representative for my district and for Oregon. I am humbled by the confidence Senator Metsger and many other show with their endorsements. I will honor their confidence and represent Oregon voters to the best of my ability.”
