Estacada resident, Barbara Haggerty, died at her home Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2009. She was 80.
A celebration of her life was held on Oct. 24, 2009, at Sanctuary Church in Gresham. Private inurnment was at Willamette National Cemetery.
Barbara Lee McGraw was born March 28, 1929, in Wallowa, Ore., to Virgil and Beulah (Hancock) McGraw. She was one of 14 children. The family moved some before settling in Vancouver, Wash.
Barbara graduated from Ogden Meadows High School. After high school, she worked for a time at Montgomery Wards. She married Matthew Haggerty on May 27, 1950 in Portland, where they started their family. In 1971, they moved to Estacada, where she had lived since.
Barbara was an avid gardener. She had a lifelong love of photography, including developing pictures in her home darkroom. Her creativity and love for her family extended into sewing, producing many Halloween costumes, stuffed toys and home décor for herself and her family. She was an original member of Home Orchard Society.
Above all, Barbara was devoted to her family, husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchild, always dedicating time to their lives and activities from which she derived her greatest joys.
Survivors include her daughters, Kitty Starr of Gresham, Colleen Sexton of Tigard and Barbara Anne Kaufman of Gresham; sisters Joy Carter of Clackamas, Mary Jones of Portland, Kathleen Gribble of Gresham and Judy Johnson of Prineville; brothers Herbert McGraw of Gresham and Joe McGraw of Brazil; seven grandchildren; and one great-grand child.
